About the job
Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems to be safe and beneficial for users and society. We are a growing team of researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders dedicated to this mission.
We are looking for a Security Engineering Manager to lead our Secure Frameworks Research team. This team develops high-leverage security frameworks and libraries that ensure secure model development and prevent vulnerabilities through thoughtful design. You will collaborate across Anthropic to own critical security foundations, including cryptographic frameworks and secure serialization and authorization systems, enabling teams to work securely without needing to be security experts.
Responsibilities
- Design frameworks and libraries for secure handling of sensitive data (model weights, customer data, training datasets).
- Own developed frameworks, ensuring excellent user experience, proactive monitoring, and responsive support.
- Enable other teams to build their own security solutions by providing design guidance and expanding security ownership.
- Partner with product, research, infrastructure, and other security teams to ensure smooth integration of frameworks with lower-level security controls.
- Make strategic decisions on framework development based on security risk and translate these into prioritized roadmaps.
- Define success metrics for framework adoption and impact, aiming for engineers to naturally use Secure Frameworks' tools.
- Manage and grow a team of engineers to deliver high-impact projects, balancing security rigor with development velocity.
Requirements
- 3+ years managing security engineering teams with a proven track record of team productivity.
- 5+ years of hands-on security and software engineering experience.
- Deep expertise in securing complex architectures, threat modeling, and risk assessment, with the ability to make risk-based decisions.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, balancing security requirements with developer experience and velocity.
- Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
- Passion for building diverse, high-performing teams and growing engineers in a fast-paced environment.
- Low ego, high empathy, and a track record as a talent magnet.
- Experience working with technical internal customers.
- Familiarity with AI safety concepts and frameworks.
