Anthropic is seeking desktop app engineers to join their Claude product team. The mission is to build native applications that leverage advanced language models, packaging AI capabilities into elegant desktop experiences. This role involves working with a team of engineers, researchers, and product specialists to design and implement components that connect AI technology with user interfaces. The team is looking to build the best possible version of Claude for macOS and Windows using a mix of native and web technologies, and is interested in strong engineers eager to learn new languages and technologies to create optimal user experiences.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain core infrastructure and features for Claude.ai and the Electron-based desktop app using TypeScript and React.
- Utilize native code (Rust, Swift, C++) for advanced desktop app features, integrating Claude with macOS and Windows.
- Optimize application performance, memory usage, and startup times across platforms.
- Design and build robust update mechanisms and deployment pipelines.
- Create monitoring tools to track application performance and user experience.
- Develop an understanding of how advanced LLMs can best augment users on their computers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with a strong emphasis on desktop application development.
- Practical experience with Electron and a deep understanding of its architecture.
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills and experience with modern frontend frameworks.
- Product-focused approach, prioritizing robust, scalable, and easy-to-use solutions.
- Experience with native module development in C++ to extend application capabilities.
- Understanding of macOS and/or Windows platform-specific technologies and development patterns.
- Experience with cross-platform application packaging, code signing, and distribution.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and work closely with cross-functional teams.
