Anthropic's Legal Tech engineers are crucial for keeping Claude at the forefront of AI development. They partner closely with legal counsel to provide custom infrastructure and guidance for complex, novel technical matters. This role involves building dedicated, highly secure, and reliable cloud environments, along with data processing and storage capabilities at speed and scale. You will own your scope end-to-end, from requirements to production systems that meet legal invariants and enable new possibilities. The systems built will be dependable, scalable, interpretable, and auditable, ensuring trust in their results. You will also manage internal customer relationships, gathering and prioritizing needs from various teams like Privacy, Security, Research, Infra, and Legal to deliver capabilities on time. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will explain technical concepts to inform legal decisions and proactively design solutions to prevent future problems, empowering the business to manage risk and innovate faster.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate dedicated cloud infrastructure, storage, and data pipelines for specialized workloads.
- Design architectures with built-in security, privacy, reliability, scalability, and auditability.
- Partner with internal customer teams to translate requirements into sound approaches and realistic timelines.
- Deliver solutions against fixed deadlines.
- Support complex legal requests on controlled infrastructure with verifiable chain of custody.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to extend existing infrastructure for new workflows or legal requests.
- Clarify non-technical stakeholder needs through clear and responsive dialogue.
Requirements
- Experience designing, building, and operating highly trusted production infrastructure and data systems, including owning architectural decisions.
- Experience working across large, complex, multi-team environments, including unfamiliar stacks and code.
- Ability to take end-to-end ownership and secure a cloud account (networking, storage, identity, encryption, least-privilege provisioning) on AWS and/or GCP.
- Ability to translate legal and privacy requirements into sound technical designs and implementations.
- A habit of verifying rather than assuming, designing checks for invariants.
- Self-directed in a high-change environment and comfortable resequencing priorities quickly.
- Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders and understanding of their needs.
