Education Labs studies how people learn and build capability with AI, aiming to close the loop between discoveries and accessible learning tools. As the first dedicated education researcher, you will strengthen the team's measurement of learning and AI fluency to ensure trustworthy evidence from experiments. You will design instruments, build tools, run studies, and translate findings into product experiments and action research in real learning settings. This hands-on research role is embedded in a small team where you will publish, influence thinking across Anthropic, and help decide on scaling, handoff, or discontinuation of initiatives. The focus is on learning experiences that progressively enhance capability, curiosity, and empowerment.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct mixed-methods studies on AI skill development, measuring success by capability growth.
- Build and validate instruments, measures, and evaluation methods for trustworthy findings.
- Translate research insights into product, curriculum, and model improvements through collaboration.
- Generate novel insights into how AI reshapes learning and how organizations can adapt.
- Communicate work through clear writing, prototypes, and presentations to shape organizational thinking.
- Create tools using code and software to collect validated metrics at scale.
Requirements
- Research background in learning sciences, education, cognitive science, HCI, educational psychology, or a related field.
- Strong mixed-methods skills including experimental design, measurement, psychometrics, and qualitative methods.
- Hands-on technical skill in Python, data analysis, and working with LLMs for analysis and prototyping.
- Comfort deriving insights from imperfect, dynamic data and making research decisions with incomplete information.
- Comfort with ambiguity, undefined problem spaces, and a bias toward rapid, iterative inquiry.
- Clear communication and a track record of cross-functional collaboration.
- Genuine curiosity about AI's impact on learning and work, with a perspective on technology enhancing human capability.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
