About the job
Anthropic's Safeguards organization is responsible for developing the policies, evaluations, and detection and enforcement systems that govern the use of Claude. Within this organization, the Policy, Enforcement, and Threat Intelligence teams collaborate to define acceptable use, detect violations, and investigate sophisticated misuse and emerging threats. As the program manager for this fast-paced and cross-functional group, you will ensure the smooth operation of these teams by tracking the overall portfolio, managing processes that connect their work internally and externally, and facilitating alignment among stakeholders. This role requires someone who can bring structure to complex, rapidly evolving work without creating unnecessary bureaucracy, and who can build trust with policy experts, researchers, and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Manage cross-functional programs for Policy Design, Enforcement, and Threat Intelligence teams, ensuring workstreams are on track and visible to leadership.
- Oversee the team's operating rhythm, including quarterly planning, priority setting, status tracking, and maintaining clear decision records.
- Coordinate policy work with partner teams in research, product, engineering, legal, and communications to proactively identify dependencies and avoid surprises.
- Drive readiness for policy, enforcement, and threat intelligence initiatives tied to model launches and product releases, managing timelines, reviews, and sign-offs.
- Manage the process for the organization's external publications, such as blog posts and threat reports, from conception through approval and publication.
- Identify and escalate risks, blockers, and resourcing gaps with proposed solutions.
- Develop and implement efficient processes and tools to enhance team speed, and retire outdated or ineffective ones.
Requirements
- Experience managing cross-functional programs in a fast-paced technical environment with a proven track record of on-time delivery across teams.
- Ability to structure ambiguous work by breaking down large goals into actionable plans, assigning owners, and tracking milestones, adapting as priorities change.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to provide clear status updates, decision records, and executive summaries.
- Experience managing review and approval processes involving multiple stakeholders for items like publications, launches, or policy releases.
- Sound judgment in determining when processes are beneficial versus when they create overhead, with a preference for the leanest effective approach.
- Comfort working with sensitive topics and maintaining high standards of confidentiality.
