As the Product Policy Manager for Product Risk, you will be instrumental in assessing product launches for safety risks and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement appropriate safety mitigations. This role involves working closely with product, legal, public policy, and engineering teams to understand new features, anticipate potential misuses, and develop policies that balance innovation with responsibility. Your work is crucial for maintaining Anthropic's commitment to safe and beneficial AI as product capabilities expand. Please note, this position may involve exposure to sensitive content.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain risk assessment frameworks for new product features.
- Conduct comprehensive product safety reviews, evaluating technical and non-technical harms.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and Safeguards teams to leverage expertise.
- Analyze potential misuses and unintended consequences of new capabilities and translate into mitigations.
- Leverage SME risk assessments to inform product safety recommendations.
- Design and run bespoke evaluations for products requiring tailored assessment.
- Craft policy recommendations balancing innovation with responsible AI deployment.
- Stay current on AI development trends and emerging risks.
- Contribute to regular reports on product policy risks and mitigations for senior leadership.
Requirements
- Strong technical background with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of safety policies and considerations for various product surfaces.
- Adept at prioritizing safety mitigations in a high-volume launch process.
- Experience conducting risk evaluations of novel products in fast-moving organizations.
- Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with product and engineering teams on safety integration.
- Thorough understanding of AI ethics, responsible AI principles, and AI safety/governance debates.
- Ability to think creatively about technology misuses and develop innovative mitigation solutions.
- Strong program management skills with experience driving policy development from ideation to implementation.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Field of study relevant to the role.

- Annual compensation range: $245,000 - $285,000 USD
