About the job

Anthropic is seeking a Political Programs Lead to establish and manage the programs through which the company, its political action committees, and employees engage in the political process. This foundational role involves shaping political strategy, developing programs, and overseeing their day-to-day execution. The position reports to the head of Political Programs, Campaigns & Coalitions, and will be responsible for designing programs, performing initial work, and building a team as the programs expand. Anthropic's political participation is committed to being bipartisan, disclosed, and governed by strict written criteria and oversight, focusing on supporting candidates and causes aligned with the safe development of AI and democratic governance. Employee participation is voluntary, and the role upholds a high standard of legal and ethical conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage Anthropic's presidential engagement program for the 2028 cycle, including mapping prospective fields, educating candidates and advisors on AI policy, preparing executives for discussions, and planning for platform, convention, and transition periods.
  • Develop a candidate outreach and education program for federal, state, and local races, introducing Anthropic and briefing candidates and their advisors on AI and AI policy.
  • Establish Anthropic's field programs, including grassroots and grasstops organizing on AI policy in priority states and districts.
  • Oversee the daily operations of Anthropic's political giving, encompassing the employee-funded PAC, voluntary employee participation programs, and corporate contributions.
  • Collaborate with government relations teams to recommend candidates and committees for support to the PAC board and company leadership, based on established criteria for AI safety and democratic governance.
  • Develop Anthropic's political intelligence by monitoring races, committees, states, and presidential fields to inform leadership decisions and support government relations planning.
  • Design and implement educational initiatives and events to ensure informed employee participation in political activities.
  • Cultivate senior relationships within both political parties and represent Anthropic credibly within the political community.
  • Assist the head of the function in advising Anthropic's leadership on political risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure all programs and communications comply with campaign finance, lobbying, and ethics rules, working closely with Legal and outside counsel.
  • Coordinate with Federal, State and Local, Policy, and Communications teams to align political programs with Anthropic's policy positions and public voice.
  • Report on program activities internally and as part of Anthropic's public disclosures.
  • Hire and manage a small team to support program growth.

Requirements

  • Experience in campaigns, party committees, political organizations, or corporate/association political programs.
  • At least one role managing a program or budget and being accountable for its results.
  • Working knowledge of lawful political participation methods for companies and employees (PACs, individual giving, 501(c)(4) and trade association engagement, grassroots/grasstops, candidate education).
  • Familiarity with campaign finance, lobbying, and gifts and ethics rules governing political participation.
  • Experience advising senior executives on political matters.
