Anthropic is seeking a Program Manager to lead and expand its AI for Science Program. This foundational role involves building and managing strategic partnerships with academic labs, startups, and foundations globally, focusing on deploying AI, specifically Claude, to accelerate scientific discovery in fields like biomedical sciences, chemistry, and materials science. The goal is to foster relationships and collaborations that demonstrate and enhance Claude's capabilities in scientific research, while also building communities of practice among scientists. The ideal candidate will combine deep scientific connections with an entrepreneurial spirit to innovate at the forefront of AI application in science.
Responsibilities
- Manage Anthropic's AI for Science API credit strategy and partnerships with academic labs, startups, and foundations.
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new partners through application processes and direct outreach.
- Act as the primary relationship manager for the AI for Science program, coordinating with internal Applied AI, product, and GTM teams.
- Generate regular reports and insights from the AI for Science ecosystem to inform research and go-to-market strategies.
- Oversee program timelines, resource allocation, and reporting for the AI for Science initiative.
- Collaborate with partners to understand their technical and operational needs and develop deployment plans.
- Engage in early technical prototyping and testing to support and unblock partners.
- Define a research agenda to assess AI's impact on individual scientific labs across various domains.
- Identify opportunities to create public goods, such as open-source tools and datasets, for the scientific community.
- Represent Anthropic at international scientific conferences and events.
- Contribute to shaping team processes and culture as the Life Science work expands.
- Travel occasionally for partner visits and conferences.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in life sciences research, with significant exposure to new technologies accelerating scientific progress.
- 3+ years of experience managing external partnerships, grantmaking, or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Established relationships and credibility within life sciences domains, including key players at universities, research institutes, and tool companies.
- Technical fluency to discuss AI concepts, understand LLM capabilities and limitations, and collaborate effectively with technical teams.
- Analytical skills with experience using data to guide strategy and measure impact.
- Experience building communities of practice for scientists exploring and using new technologies.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with a track record of building programs or organizations from scratch.
- A strong commitment to maximizing impact for underserved communities.
- High degree of initiative and comfort with ambiguity; adept at building solutions in evolving environments.
- Excellent prioritization skills to manage a high volume of partnerships and opportunities.
- Experience working with philanthropic foundations on science funding.
- Background in biotech companies, academic research institutions, or roles at the intersection of scientific research and technology products.
- Experience in wet lab research with strong scientific communication abilities.
