About the job
As the Manager of Commercial Applied AI Architects at Anthropic, you will lead a team of technical architects focused on driving the adoption of frontier AI technologies among mid-market and SMB customers. This role involves guiding companies in building and deploying solutions using the Claude API, Claude Code, Agent SDK, and Claude for Enterprise. You will be instrumental in shaping deal outcomes where technical expertise is critical, leveraging your team's insights to create blueprints, demos, and tooling that benefit a wider audience. You are expected to be hands-on, working alongside your team on challenging engagements, providing unblocking support, and ensuring technical excellence without taking over their work. This is a first-line leadership position reporting to the Head of Applied AI, Commercial, with a focus on growing the team and co-owning the strategy for Applied AI within the Commercial segment.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and grow a team of Commercial Applied AI Architects, ensuring high technical credibility, customer impact, and speed.
- Lead hiring efforts for the team, defining profiles, managing the interview process, and developing onboarding programs.
- Set team goals, conduct performance reviews, and foster career development through direct feedback.
- Define and manage the prioritization framework for Applied AI engagements across a large customer base, making strategic decisions on resource allocation.
- Collaborate with architects on critical customer engagements, from technical discovery to deployment and expansion, modeling best practices.
- Develop and maintain technical playbooks for Claude API integrations, Claude Code, Agent SDK architectures, and Claude for Enterprise deployments.
- Translate account-level successes into scalable, reusable assets.
- Partner with Commercial sales leadership and Account Executives to co-develop segment strategy and refine the operating model.
- Gather insights from customer usage of Claude and provide actionable feedback to Product and Engineering teams.
- Represent Anthropic technically at customer sites, workshops, and events, and contribute to thought leadership.
- Stay current with AI engineering advancements, including agentic architectures and developer tooling, and ensure the team operates at the frontier.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles (e.g., Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer).
- 3+ years of experience managing pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams.
- Proven ability to hire, coach, provide feedback, and foster a high-performing environment for technical teams.
- Experience leading technical teams in high-velocity sales environments with capacity constraints.
- Demonstrated builder credibility with experience in building and deploying LLM-powered applications.
- Understanding of the difference between prototypes and production systems.
- Ability to engage effectively with customer engineering leadership.
- Hands-on familiarity with agentic architectures, LLM evaluation, and modern AI developer tooling.
- A systems mindset focused on building scalable solutions.
- Comfort working in ambiguous, early-stage environments and building structure.
- Strong executive presence and ability to build trust with technical and business leaders.
