About the job
Anthropic is seeking a Lead Technical Instructor in New York to build and elevate its technical instruction function. This role involves delivering hands-on technical training to engineers, architects, and practitioners, both in person and remotely. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to developing other instructors, running train-the-trainer programs, and ensuring a high, consistent standard for technical instruction across Anthropic's programs. You will be an engineer who teaches and a teacher who develops others, capable of adapting lessons on the fly and providing constructive feedback to improve teaching quality. This is not primarily an instructional design role, but requires comfort with coding, debugging, and engaging with experienced practitioners.
Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on technical instruction for onboarding, residency, and technical enablement programs, both in-person in New York and remotely.
- Model excellent technical teaching for diverse audiences, adapting to different experience levels.
- Run train-the-trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and partners.
- Coach and calibrate instructors through observation and feedback.
- Partner with technical experts to develop effective training content and improve existing materials.
- Own instructional quality for assigned programs, ensuring delivery meets Anthropic's standards.
- Analyze learner and instructor data to identify and recommend improvements to curriculum and delivery.
- Contribute to the evolution of Anthropic's technical instruction function by sharing insights from teaching experiences.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or a similar technical role.
- 3+ years of hands-on technical instruction experience, including teaching engineers in live, remote, and in-person environments.
- Production engineering experience, including writing and shipping production software.
- Recent hands-on AI development experience within the last three years, using LLM APIs, agents, tool use, or related technologies.
- Experience in instructor development, including helping others improve through feedback and practice teaching.
- Must be located in New York City or willing to relocate.
- Willingness to work from the NYC office approximately three days per week when programs are in session.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% to San Francisco and Europe.
