Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems to be safe and beneficial for users and society. As demand for understanding and utilizing Claude grows, Anthropic needs to formalize its technical instruction function. This role is the first dedicated technical instruction position, responsible for building and scaling this function. The individual will initially focus on teaching engineers, architects, and technical practitioners, and then develop the people, standards, and systems to expand instruction capabilities significantly. This player-coach role involves leading training sessions, managing a team of technical instructors, defining and certifying teaching standards, and ensuring the quality of technical instruction across various programs.
Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on technical instruction for onboarding and residency programs, modeling excellent delivery.
- Hire, onboard, manage, and develop technical instructors, setting performance expectations and making hiring decisions.
- Define and maintain standards for technical instruction quality, including rubrics and certification processes.
- Design and execute train-the-trainer programs for internal and external instructors to enable scaling.
- Collaborate with enablement teams to transform technical content into effective training sessions and labs.
- Partner with other teams to staff programs with certified instructors and ensure instruction quality.
- Establish metrics for learner outcomes and instructor quality, and use data to drive improvements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, or technical education.
- 4+ years of hands-on technical instruction experience with engineers in live settings.
- Production engineering experience, including writing and shipping code.
- Recent hands-on AI development experience (within 3 years) using LLM APIs, agent frameworks, or similar technologies.
- Proven people leadership experience, including managing technical practitioners and their development.
- Experience designing or running train-the-trainer programs or instructor certification processes.
- Ability to be in the San Francisco office 3-4 days per week for instructor-led programs.
