About the job

Anthropic's Tax Technology team, within Finance Systems, is seeking a Tax Technologist to build and own the systems that ensure all revenue and purchasing transactions are bookable, taxable, and auditable. This role involves writing integrations, tooling, and production code to connect tax systems with Anthropic's billing, ERP, and data warehouse. You will work across various tax domains including indirect tax, corporate income tax, withholding tax, R&D credits, and transfer pricing. As a foundational hire, you will collaborate closely with the Tax Technology Lead and cross-functional partners in Tax, Data Science, Billing Engineering, and Product. A key aspect of this role will be developing and hardening tax-specific tooling and audit-ready evidence pipelines to support business growth. Future opportunities include leveraging Claude to automate tax processes end-to-end and building impactful internal products for the Tax team.

Responsibilities

  • Own tax-related changes in the billing codebase and billing-to-tax-engine integration, including withholding tax.
  • Lead AP tax engine implementation for ERP-connected purchasing flows, covering data migration, integration pipelines, reconciliation, e-invoicing, and go-live validation.
  • Build and iterate tax-specific products and internal tooling across the tax stack, including reconciliations, data pipelines for provision and research credits, transfer pricing datasets, and exemption tooling.
  • Manage production connections between the tax stack and data infrastructure, feeding the central ingestion layer.
  • Build SOX-aware IPE and control-total tooling for tax data flows, including ingestion control totals, source-to-target tie-outs, and audit-ready evidence pipelines.
  • Design and build tooling to apply Claude to tax work and provide self-serve access to data, calculations, and evidence for non-technical tax colleagues.
  • Serve as the technical owner for vendor implementation handoffs, managing the build process and post-go-live accountability.
  • Partner with Billing Engineering, Data Platform, Tax, Treasury, and Product to optimize and ensure compliance of the tax stack with new products and jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building or owning production integrations with billing platforms, ERPs, or enterprise tax/finance systems.
  • Tax systems fluency in at least one domain (indirect tax engines, corporate tax provision/compliance, withholding, research credit, or transfer pricing systems).
  • Proficiency in writing production-grade Python with testing and code-review discipline.
  • Sufficient SQL proficiency for building reconciliations and validating data end-to-end.
  • Experience building or operating SOX-aware data flows (e.g., IPE, control totals, documented pipelines).
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to work directly with vendors, auditors, engineers, and the tax team without an intermediary.
