Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems to be safe and beneficial for users and society. As the company expands into owned facilities and colocation, the Platform Security Engineering (PSE) team is taking on critical security responsibilities previously handled by cloud providers. This includes ensuring firmware integrity, boot chain verification, platform trust, and host hardening for Anthropic's training and inference workloads.
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of platform security engineers focused on firmware research, OS and kernel hardening, platform trust integration, and server manageability firmware. In this hands-on management role, you will define the team's roadmap, foster team growth, and be accountable for the security posture of Anthropic's compute platforms. This involves deep understanding from silicon root of trust through firmware, bootloader, kernel, and host software, requiring collaboration with internal infrastructure, fleet, and compute teams, as well as external silicon vendors, OEMs, and compute providers.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the platform security engineering group, including hiring, onboarding, development, performance management, and prioritization for full-time and contract engineers.
- Own and deliver the platform security roadmap, covering hardware root of trust and attestation, secure and measured boot, OS and kernel hardening, and host-side pipelines.
- Manage the firmware supply chain posture for the fleet, including SBOM, authenticated updates, rollback protection, and vendor relationships for fixes.
- Drive platform risk assessments for new compute platforms and providers, making evidence-based go/no-go recommendations.
- Partner with infrastructure, fleet, compute, and detection and response teams to integrate platform controls without impacting training or inference performance.
- Manage relationships with silicon vendors, OEMs, and compute providers, focusing on security requirements, vulnerability management, and disclosure timelines.
- Oversee the team's operating rhythm, including design reviews, threat models, incident participation, and status reporting to leadership.
Requirements
- 10+ years in systems security, with at least 5 years focused on firmware, hardware, or OS-level security.
- 5+ years as a people manager of security or systems engineers, with experience hiring and developing senior and staff-level engineers.
- Ability to engage with engineers on technical details from architecture to implementation, including secure boot, measured boot, TPMs, attestation protocols, UEFI/BMC firmware, and Linux kernel/OS hardening.
- Experience owning a technical roadmap end-to-end, including prioritization trade-offs between security, performance, and delivery timelines.
- Proven experience working directly with silicon vendors, OEMs, or cloud/bare-metal providers on security requirements and remediation.
- Strong written communication skills for design reviews, risk assessments, and executive status updates.
- Comfortable building a team and its processes from an early stage with broad scope.
