About the job

Anthropic is seeking an International Tax Director to join its Tax planning, M&A, and Policy team. This role is responsible for managing the company's tax position as it expands globally. You will focus on US international tax provisions, including subpart F, NCTI, FDDEI, BEAT, and foreign tax credits, as well as subchapter C rules for entity structuring. This is a hands-on technical position where you will conduct analysis, review models, and oversee project implementation, often in complex and evolving areas of tax law. You will collaborate with M&A tax colleagues, the tax provision and compliance teams, Legal, Treasury, and Accounting to integrate acquired businesses and manage international structures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support US international tax planning projects from analysis through implementation.
  • Analyze US international tax consequences of business initiatives and recommend structuring.
  • Perform and review technical analysis under subpart F, NCTI, BEAT, and foreign tax credit rules.
  • Apply subchapter C to entity formations, contributions, distributions, liquidations, and reorganizations.
  • Define assumptions and scenarios for models quantifying tax impacts and review them for accuracy.
  • Support M&A tax team post-closing by developing integration plans and leading follow-on planning.
  • Draft technical memoranda and maintain documentation to support planning positions.
  • Partner with tax compliance and transfer pricing to ensure accurate reflection of projects.
  • Scope, budget, and manage work performed by outside advisors.
  • Track and assess the impact of US and OECD legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Ensure approved planning and integration steps are implemented as designed.
  • Support responses to tax authority inquiries related to your work.

Requirements

  • Deep technical knowledge of US international tax provisions (subpart F, NCTI, BEAT, foreign tax credit) applied in a planning context.
  • Working knowledge of subchapter C as it applies to multinational groups.
  • Experience leading tax planning projects end-to-end (scoping, analysis, modeling, documentation, implementation).
  • Understanding of how planning positions impact transfer pricing, ASC 740 provision, and US international compliance.
  • Ability to research technical tax questions and write clear, well-supported memoranda.
  • Proficiency in reviewing tax models, identifying technical errors, and explaining necessary changes.
  • Experience managing outside advisors, including scoping work and budgets.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with different stakeholders.
  • Capacity to reach defensible recommendations with incomplete facts or unsettled guidance.
  • Skill in communicating technical tax conclusions clearly to non-specialists and collaborating effectively.
