About the job

Anthropic is expanding its international presence, and the Tax team is seeking a dedicated leader for US international tax reporting and compliance. This role will oversee the US international components of the global income tax provision and the US international compliance program, reporting to the global provision lead. You will be the technical authority on US international tax rules for a frontier AI company, modeling key tax concepts and establishing a scalable compliance process. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will develop calculations, controls, and eventually a team, while collaborating with Accounting, Treasury, Legal, and external advisors.

Responsibilities

  • Own US international components of quarterly and annual worldwide income tax provision, including NCTI/GILTI, Subpart F, FDDEI/FDII, BEAT, foreign tax credits, Section 861 expense allocation, and E&P/PTEP tracking.
  • Manage outside basis difference analysis and indefinite reinvestment assertions under ASC 740-30, and US international aspects of valuation allowance and uncertain tax position assessments.
  • Design and operate SOX controls for the international provision process and support financial statement audits.
  • Lead preparation and review of US international tax return workpapers and forms (e.g., Forms 5471, 8992, 926, 1118, 8858, 8865, 8991, 8993), including elections, statements, and disclosures.
  • Support US withholding tax compliance (Forms 1042/1042-S) and cross-border payment analysis.
  • Develop a compliance calendar, data pipelines, and review procedures to keep pace with new entities and transactions, driving automation and tax technology adoption.
  • Assist tax planning and M&A teams in modeling US international tax consequences of new market entry, entity structuring, intercompany arrangements, financing, and M&A.
  • Monitor and model legislative and regulatory developments (e.g., OBBBA, Pillar Two) and their impacts on provision and cash tax.
  • Manage outside advisors, support audit defense and controversy on US international issues, and mentor tax team members.

Requirements

  • Substantial US international tax experience in multinational software/technology companies, with a mix of Big 4 public accounting and in-house corporate tax experience.
  • Deep technical knowledge of US international tax law (NCTI/GILTI, Subpart F, FDDEI/FDII, BEAT, foreign tax credits, E&P/PTEP, Section 861 allocation) and ASC 740, including ASC 740-30 outside basis analysis.
  • Experience owning both provision and compliance for a US international tax function at scale, with reviewer-level command of relevant tax forms.
  • CPA and/or JD required; Master's in Taxation or LLM is a plus.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical positions to diverse audiences and act as the sole authority in the domain.
  • Thrive in a high-growth, high-ambiguity environment requiring process building.
