As an Applied AI Research Engineer, you will explore the capabilities of Anthropic's models and products, validate them with real customers, and empower the Applied AI team to effectively sell and deliver these solutions. You will work closely with product teams to gain deep expertise on emerging capabilities and act as a crucial feedback loop, relaying field insights back to Product and Research to ensure future development aligns with customer needs. This role involves a blend of research, field expertise, and bridging the gap between customers and product development teams. You will need strong technical skills to push the boundaries of AI models, excellent communication abilities to explain complex features to various audiences, and the insight to translate field learnings into product improvements.
Responsibilities
- Embed with product teams to develop deep technical expertise on new products and capabilities, becoming the go-to field expert in your domain.
- Manage the technical go-to-market (GTM) process for model and product launches, including early testing, field readiness assessments, and ongoing capability education.
- Create demos, evaluations, and prototypes to showcase customer-relevant model and product capabilities and define performance benchmarks.
- Develop enablement materials such as playbooks, training sessions, and reference architectures in collaboration with Technical Enablement.
- Engage directly with strategic customers facing unique technical challenges, find solutions, and document learnings for broader application.
- Synthesize insights from customer engagements and collaborate with Product and Research teams to inform roadmaps, identifying adoption patterns, common obstacles, and capability gaps.
- Support high-value accounts requiring specialized domain knowledge in partnership with Sales and Applied AI teams.
- Travel occasionally to customer sites for workshops, implementation support, and research collaboration.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in a technical role such as Software Engineer, Technical Product Manager, Forward Deployed Engineer, or AI startup founder, with some customer-facing experience.
- Proven ability to deeply understand technical problems and translate learnings into helpful materials, training, or tools.
- Strong technical proficiency in at least one programming language.
- Significant experience building with large language models, including shipping LLM-powered products, developing agents/workflows, or integrating models into production systems.
- Experience designing evaluations, building prototypes, or developing technical enablement for complex products.
- Ability to rapidly acquire domain expertise in new product areas and serve as a credible technical voice.
- Curiosity about AI model capabilities and a drive to explore new use cases.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex topics clearly to diverse stakeholders, including executives.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt to different domains based on business needs, and find simple solutions.
- Collaborative and service-oriented mindset, recognizing GTM as a team effort.
- Passion for using technology safely and beneficially to advance AI safety.
