As an Applied AI Research Engineer, you will explore the capabilities of Anthropic's models and products, validate them with real customers, and empower the Applied AI team to effectively sell and deliver these solutions. You will work closely with product teams to gain in-depth knowledge of developing capabilities and act as a crucial feedback loop, relaying field insights back to Product and Research to ensure future development aligns with customer needs. This role involves collaborating with Sales, Product, and Research teams, bridging the gap between product development and customer adoption. You will manage the technical go-to-market strategy for model and product launches, including testing new models, creating demonstrations and evaluations, and preparing field teams. When strategic customers encounter unique challenges, you will provide hands-on solutions. You will also synthesize learnings from customer interactions and product usage to inform the product roadmap, working with Product, Engineering, and Research to identify what is effective, what is not, and what is most important.
Responsibilities
- Embed with product teams to become the go-to field expert on new products and capabilities.
- Manage the technical go-to-market strategy for model and product launches, including testing, readiness assessments, and ongoing education.
- Build demos, evaluations, and prototypes to showcase customer-relevant capabilities and define performance standards.
- Develop enablement materials like playbooks and training sessions in partnership with Technical Enablement.
- Engage hands-on with strategic customers to solve novel technical challenges and package learnings into scalable approaches.
- Synthesize insights from customer engagements to inform research and product roadmaps.
- Partner with Sales and Applied AI teams to support high-value accounts requiring specialized domain knowledge.
- Travel occasionally to customer sites for workshops, implementation support, and research collaboration.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in a Software Engineer, Technical Product Manager, Forward Deployed Engineer, AI startup founder, or similar technical role, with some customer-facing exposure.
- Proven ability to deeply understand technical problems and translate learnings into resources that enable others.
- Strong technical aptitude and proficiency in at least one programming language.
- Meaningful experience building with large language models (shipping LLM products, developing agents/workflows, or integrating models into production systems).
- Experience designing evaluations, building prototypes, or developing technical enablement for complex products.
- Ability to quickly gain domain expertise in new product areas and serve as a credible technical voice.
- Curiosity about AI model capabilities and identifying new use cases.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex topics to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt to different domains, and find simple solutions.
- Collaborative and service-oriented mindset.
- Passion for using technology safely and beneficially to advance AI systems.
