AI Agent Engineer

About the job

We are at the forefront of enterprise AI, focusing on the infrastructure, memory systems, and routing intelligence needed to make autonomous AI agents trustworthy and commercially viable at scale. Our applied research function bridges frontier AI research and production engineering, tackling foundational challenges for enterprise agentic AI. As a Senior Advanced AI Research Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of AI systems research and production platform engineering. You will investigate and solve complex problems in agentic AI, translating research findings into engineered prototypes and then into platform-ready capabilities. This role requires strong Python engineering skills and the ability to move fluently between experimental work and building well-structured services or SDK modules, producing both research artifacts and production code.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate active innovation frontiers in agentic AI systems, including memory architectures, model selection, inference routing, autonomy, and long-horizon task reliability.
  • Design and execute rigorous benchmarking and evaluation methodologies for production-relevant agentic task profiles.
  • Investigate efficiency and scalability frontiers, such as inference cost reduction and context management at scale.
  • Contribute to external publications, technical reports, and conference submissions to establish thought leadership.
  • Translate research findings into production-grade implementations, including Python services, Node.js/TypeScript SDK modules, or platform-integrated components.
  • Build well-defined provider interfaces and pluggable backends for research components like memory stores and retrieval layers.
  • Prototype and validate platform-level capabilities such as inference routing policies and agent control mechanisms.
  • Instrument research prototypes with observability features like distributed tracing, cost accounting, and latency metrics.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers to integrate validated research capabilities into production systems.
  • Identify platform gaps surfaced by research experiments and propose engineering solutions.
  • Ensure research-derived capabilities meet production standards for error handling, defaults, documentation, and test coverage.
  • Align research priorities with client deployment blockers and platform roadmap needs.
  • Communicate research findings, architectural trade-offs, and prototype results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and researchers on experimental methodology, translational engineering, and production code standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Python and/or Node.js/TypeScript, building and shipping production backend services, research prototypes, or AI/ML systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with AI or ML systems, such as large language models, agent frameworks, inference serving, or retrieval and memory architectures.
  • 6+ years of engineering experience across both research and production contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to ship research into running systems.
  • Deep experience in at least one area of applied AI systems research (e.g., agent memory, inference efficiency, agentic evaluation, long-horizon task research).
  • 3+ years of applied research with a track record of translating findings into platform-integrated or published artifacts.
  • Hands-on experience with async programming.
