About the job
Abridge is seeking a Senior Research Data Scientist to join our Strategic Research team. This role is crucial for bridging rigorous research with complex data analysis and cross-functional collaboration. You will be the go-to expert for the team's data assets, structures, and pipelines, working across data engineering, analysis, and applied science to ensure efficient and confident progression from raw data to actionable insights. You will partner with research scientists to explore real-world healthcare data, build and maintain data infrastructure, develop and test metrics, conduct analyses, and scrutinize evaluation frameworks. The goal is to move beyond standard metrics to capture what truly matters to clinicians and patients, translating complex findings into clear narratives that inform product decisions, guide strategy, and establish evidence for the impact of ambient AI in healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative evaluations of Abridge models and products using real-world deployment data, offline evaluations, and customer feedback.
- Develop and validate metrics that reflect meaningful outcomes for providers and patients, assessing validity, measurement error, and bias.
- Design and execute analyses to address core research questions, including validating automated evaluation frameworks, characterizing usage patterns, estimating causal effects, and extracting clinical practice information from unstructured data.
- Build deep familiarity with existing metrics and evaluation frameworks, interrogating assumptions and proposing alternatives.
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in Abridge's data assets, serving as the team's authority on data provenance, structure, and limitations.
- Build, extend, and maintain data pipelines for internal and external research efforts, producing clean, well-documented datasets.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering and platform teams to ensure data accessibility, reliability, and understanding.
- Collaborate closely with product, engineering, science, and data teams to ensure credible and decision-relevant evaluation and analysis.
- Partner with commercial teams and liaise with customers to ensure measurement and evaluation reflect real-world product usage.
- Translate complex analyses into clear, nuanced narratives tailored to different audiences.
- Produce technical analyses, reports, and presentations to inform product decisions, guide strategy, and build evidence for ambient AI impact.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience using SQL and Python or R for data science.
- Experience building or working closely with data pipelines and data infrastructure.
- 3+ years of data science experience in academic or industry research settings.
