About the job
Abridge is seeking an engineering leader to establish and grow its New York engineering presence. This role is primarily focused on building and shipping business-critical product areas end-to-end, setting the technical direction, and making architectural decisions. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for setting the culture, pace, and quality bar for the New York office, acting as the senior technical voice and representing Abridge engineering in the city. While not expected to code daily, the role requires hands-on technical involvement to unblock the team and contribute to technical discussions.
Responsibilities
- Build the New York engineering presence, establishing operating rhythm, quality bar, and culture.
- Lead AI-native engineering practices, influencing product development and team workflows.
- Drive execution velocity, set business context, and partner with product and design teams.
- Own product areas from conception to shipped enterprise-grade software.
- Make key architectural decisions and ensure team accountability for output.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and unblock engineering teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams, including experience as a manager of managers or senior engineering leader.
- Proven track record of building products from inception to scale and owning product outcomes.
- Hands-on technical ability to review code, unblock issues, and participate in technical design discussions.
- A clear point of view on AI and agentic engineering, with evidence of application.
- Skilled in hiring and mentorship, with a history of helping engineers grow and hiring quickly while maintaining high standards.
- Experience thriving in a fast-growing startup environment.
- Genuine passion for Abridge's mission in healthcare.
- Based in New York and willing to work from the SoHo office five days a week.
