Abridge is seeking Clinician Scientists to advance the development of its AI-powered clinical tools. This role requires a blend of deep clinical expertise and a background in AI, focusing on shaping AI-driven tools to ensure accuracy and quality for clinicians and patients. You will collaborate closely with engineers, researchers, product managers, and fellow clinicians to refine AI models, validate outputs, and create new functionalities that enhance documentation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine AI-driven clinical tools for notes, risk adjustment, clinical decision support, and prior authorization using clinical expertise and prompt engineering.
  • Define 'clinically meaningful' output standards, including acceptable error rates, failure modes, and quality thresholds for each product area.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate medical insights into AI models.
  • Write, review, and optimize prompts to enhance AI model performance in clinical settings.
  • Build and refine evaluation tools for medical documentation quality assessment, including hallucination and omission detection, and medication safety checks.
  • Translate clinical needs into technical specifications and data models.
  • Define clinical guardrail metrics and baselines, and manage pre/post evaluation requirements for model updates affecting clinical output.
  • Contribute to product development, revenue cycle management, and other business initiatives.
  • Monitor clinical guideline updates and identify necessary product evolution based on new standards or payer policies.

Requirements

  • MD, PA, DO, or equivalent clinical degree with direct experience in clinical practice.
  • Deep understanding of medical documentation, clinical workflows, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated clinical notes, provide structured feedback, and guide improvements.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7) and privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Hands-on experience in clinical data validation and quality assessment.
  • Experience collaborating with engineers and product teams to build AI-powered clinical tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
