Abridge is seeking an Associate General Counsel - Life Sciences to be the first dedicated legal counsel for their newly formed life sciences business. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to product, engineering, and strategy teams, integrating legal and compliance frameworks into the product lifecycle. The ideal candidate will provide practical, business-oriented guidance to support innovation while ensuring compliance with healthcare, privacy, and other regulatory requirements. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the direction of Abridge's life sciences business as a founding member of an innovative new product line.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as product counsel, partnering with life sciences teams on product design, development, and deployment.
  • Support go-to-market activities, including drafting and negotiating agreements and advising on contracting strategy.
  • Drive the development of Abridge's Life Sciences legal strategy and guardrails.
  • Provide legal guidance on regulatory, privacy, and compliance matters, including HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, and AI/ML.
  • Advise on healthcare regulatory compliance, including FDA, FTC, fraud and abuse, and related state laws.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and mitigate risk.
  • Support privacy impact assessments, compliance risk assessments, and data governance efforts.
  • Coordinate with external counsel for specialist issues and risk analysis.
  • Monitor emerging regulations around AI, data use, and healthcare technology and advise stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of legal experience, with at least 2 years in a dedicated life sciences role.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with pharmaceutical/biotech products and solutions.
  • Ability to communicate and translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance for non-legal professionals.
  • Comfort managing a high volume of projects, tight timelines, and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise business judgment.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships with technical, design, and commercial teams.
  • Creativity in solving novel legal matters and developing new processes.
  • Familiarity with recent trends in artificial intelligence, particularly large language models and responsible AI principles.
